Leadership and Management

Building Profitable Communities
Men view organizations as pyramids. Since their goal is to fight their way to the top this creates a culture of short-term teamwork. Women innately possess the most profitable perspective: an organism. Long Term profitability is achieved through valuing the uniqueness of individuals. Profitability is accomplished with “true leadership”: facilitating the purpose and progress of individuals which results in a culture of Long Term teamwork. Women are born corporate leaders.  This presentation will cover the: the organism model, technique to determine the uniqueness of each individual, metric for community profitability, tools for creating profitable connections, and model for continually improving these connections.

Leadership:  The Next Generation Girls Growing into Women Leaders of Tomorrow
Girl Scout founder Juliette Gordon Low was a leader ahead of her time. Almost two-thirds of American women of distinction were Girl Scouts in their youth. What better organization to investigate and study the characteristics of women leaders and the experiences of girls growing up and developing leadership skills. As the national Girl Scout organization renews its commitment to girls’ leadership development, its research arm, the Girl Scout Research Institute, has published a study, “Exploring Girl Leadership”. The leadership field has moved beyond “male” or “female” models of leadership to a more holistic framework, emphasizing connectivity, teamwork, community involvement, civic engagement, personal and group development, and social change. Similarly, the youth leadership field is moving from the idea of one individual leader to a more participatory and inclusive approach with a focus on commitment to changing communities, neighborhoods and the world at large. But how do girls, specifically, develop leadership skills? What contexts are necessary for girls to develop their strengths? How do girls reconcile their desire to be leaders with societal pressure to conform to conventional notions of what it means to be a girl? The speaker will explore these areas in an effort to educate participants and increase awareness of how we can support not only our peer women leaders, but those girls growing into the next generation of leaders.

What Women Teach Women About Leadership
As one cartoonist put it - with a male interviewer speaking to a female applicant for what was clearly a leadership position - "No, we don't have a glass ceiling here...we find that steel bars and concrete are more effective." As many inroads as women have made into positions of authority - just as many road blocks remain. And yet, as women, we are leaders in so many venues: home, family, church, community and yes...in the workplace. And we have been leaders since the beginning: think about Eve! Or how about Cleopatra? Never the woman of the small gesture she once bet Anthony that she could spend $1 million dollars on a meal. After serving a rather pedestrian repast she slipped a valuable pearl into vinegar and drank it. This presentation will focus on the style and substance of women leaders and what we can learn from them.

Leading Strong Teams
Being an effective leader of a team requires the ability to capitalize on a wide range of personalities, skills and abilities. Leaders must be able to analyze and capitalize on team strengths, works with diverse styles, and create a competitive spirit that builds cooperation.  In this program we will analyze how leaders take the individual strengths of their team members and turn those into team strengths. We will look at the challenges of leading a strong team, and specific ways to handle the kinds of issues that arise when leading talented, committed individuals working together in a team effort.

Sales Success Through Building Rapport
Building rapport is a critical step on every sales call, whether for a new prospect or a long time client. You do this by understanding what buyers want, exchanging pleasantries, grabbing favorable attention, establishing credibility, and clearly defining an agenda for the call.  Probably the most important contact point is what you say first when you are face-to-face or phone-to-phone with a buyer. This first impression is critical, even with customers you may have known for years. The first few minutes of any sales interview can set you apart from the competition and build personal and product credibility.   When you are calling on new prospects, you are usually facing an uphill battle to overcome preoccupations on the part of the buyer. Many of these unforeseen issues will require long-term care beyond a short hospital stay or rehabilitation program both today and especially into our retirement years.
